Picks & trading modes
- Conviction score
- A 0–100 score, shown as a %, estimating how often similar past picks in the same mode and universe were winners, based on Qortle's calibrated historical analysis. It is relative, not a guarantee. A pick is published as Buy, Sell, Buy Call or Buy Put only when its conviction clears that mode's minimum.
- Scoring agents
- Specialised models — Technical, Pattern Recognition, Market Regime, Sentiment, Options, Global Market, Policy/Macro, Microstructure, Risk and others — that each score a stock from 0 (bearish) to 100 (bullish). Their blended score is calibrated against history to produce conviction; for some modes conviction comes from a separate statistical model and the agent scores are shown as supporting signals.
- Universe
- The pool of stocks Qortle scans. Every plan includes Nifty 50 and Bank Nifty. Nifty Next 50, Nifty Midcap 150, Nifty Smallcap 250 and Nifty 500 can be added to any plan as add-ons, and are all included in Premium Plus.
- Trading mode
- The style of trade: Intraday, BTST and Swing (stocks, by holding period), Options and Futures (derivatives, closed the same day) and Scalping (very short options and futures trades). Basic includes Intraday; Pro adds Swing and BTST; Premium adds Options and Futures; Premium Plus adds Scalping.
- Intraday
- A trade opened and closed on the same trading day; open positions are squared off by 15:05 IST.
- BTST
- Buy Today, Sell Tomorrow — a buy-only trade entered late in the session and exited early the next morning.
- Swing
- A buy-only stock trade held for a few sessions; positions are closed within at most 5 days (3–5 depending on your risk profile).
- Scalping
- Very short trades in stock options and index futures, lasting minutes (about 90 minutes at most), always within the same day. Available on Premium Plus.
The trade plan
- Entry zone
- The narrow price band around the signal price where the plan suggests entering. When no band is available, the single signal price is shown.
- Stop-loss (SL)
- The price at which the plan exits to limit the loss if the trade goes against you. For options it is a level on the option's premium. It can move up later as a trailing stop.
- Targets (T1, T2, T3)
- Profit levels for the trade. The plan books about a third at T1 (and moves the stop to entry) and a third at T2 (and trails the stop to T1); the last third rides a trailing stop. Shown as 33% · 33% · 34%.
- Risk:Reward
- The potential gain to the middle target (T2) compared with the potential loss to the stop-loss. 1:2.4 means risking ₹1 to make about ₹2.40 if T2 is reached.
- Trailing stop
- Once a trade moves enough in your favour, the stop-loss moves up behind the price (to entry after T1, then higher), so part of the gain is locked in. The app shows this as “Profit locked”.
- Invalidation
- The level or event that proves the idea wrong — shown as “What would invalidate this” on a strategy page. Usually the stop-loss; if it is hit, the idea is closed, not averaged down.
Performance (Winners)
- Win rate
- Of the evaluated picks that closed in profit or at a loss, the share that closed in profit: wins ÷ (wins + losses). Picks that closed flat aren't counted either way.
- Average return
- The simple average realised return % across all evaluated picks in the window — wins, losses and flat closes. Partial profit booked at targets is included in each pick's return.
- Sortino ratio
- Average return above a small risk-free rate (about 0.026% per trade, an RBI repo-rate proxy), divided by how far the weaker trades fell short of that rate. Higher is better. Not annualised.
- Alpha
- The average of each pick's return minus the index's move over that pick's own holding time (entry to exit). Bank Nifty picks are compared with Bank Nifty; all others with Nifty 50.
- Days held
- Calendar days from the entry date to the exit date — 0 for same-day trades (Scalping, Intraday, Options, Futures); BTST is usually 1.
Market Monitor
- Market mood
- Qortle's 0–100 market sentiment score on a Panic · Fear · Neutral · Optimistic · Euphoria gauge (50 = neutral). It blends NIFTY's move, Nifty 500 breadth, % of stocks above their 200-DMA, India VIX, FII/DII flows and NIFTY PCR. When India VIX is 20 or more and the score is near neutral, it shows “High volatility”.
- India VIX
- NSE's measure of expected NIFTY volatility over the next 30 days, worked out from NIFTY option prices and quoted as an annual %. Higher usually means more fear.
- FII / DII flow
- Net buying (+) or selling (–) in the cash market by foreign (FII/FPI) and domestic (DII) institutions in the last trading session, in ₹ crore (NSE provisional data).
- PCR
- Put-Call Ratio — open interest in NIFTY 50 puts ÷ calls for the nearest expiry. Above 1 means more puts than calls; Qortle reads a very high PCR as a mild contrarian bullish sign.
- Advance / Decline
- How many Nifty 500 stocks rose versus fell against the previous close — a measure of market breadth.
- % above 200-DMA
- Share of Nifty 500 stocks trading above their 200-day simple moving average — another breadth measure.
Technical terms
- SMA 20 / SMA 50
- Simple moving average — the average closing price over the last 20 or 50 trading sessions.
- RSI (14)
- Relative Strength Index over 14 days, on a 0–100 scale. Around 50 is neutral; above 70 is often called overbought and below 30 oversold.
- MACD
- Compares the 12- and 26-day exponential moving averages; the signal line is a 9-day average of that difference. MACD above its signal line is read as bullish, below it as bearish.
- Breakout
- Price moving decisively above a level it had struggled to cross, such as a recent high, usually on above-average volume.
- Support / Resistance
- Price levels where buying (support) or selling (resistance) has tended to show up. Qortle finds them from recent swing lows and highs.
